Fluid Acrylic Pouring with Liquitex Soft Body Acrylics

In this video, I use Liquitex Soft Body Acrylics. These acrylics are smooth but not as fluid as Golden Fluid Acrylics. In each of the colors, I also added some Liquitex Basic Iridescent Medium. I was hoping there would be more effect in the final result, but this was not the case. I think it is better to use an iridescent paint to get the true effect.

Overall the paints were responsive and held up nicely when drying. The colors stayed fairly true. I think if I were forced to use these, I wouldn’t have a problem but overall I am not overly impressed to change from any other brand I may be using.

The pieces in the video are available for sale on my Etsy page. Please feel free to visit and find something that will support the YouTube channel.

In the video I used the following materials:

  • Liquitex Professional Soft Body Acrylic Paint 2-oz jar, Mars Black – http://amzn.to/2svVVtB
  • Liquitex Professional Soft Body Acrylic Paint 2-oz jar, Iridescent Rich Copper – http://amzn.to/2s4KTZI

Acrylic Pouring Painting A Letter J for my boy James – Triple Cup Dirty Pour

Tonight my son James and I hung out and worked on his letter J.  The kids are all really excited about hanging their own artwork on their walls and I am thrilled I get to do it with them.   Just like the last two pours, we did a three cup pour for the letter J.  The difference with this pour was that we used all primary colors to get a ton of mixed colors.  The best part was changing up how much was in each cup to get more purples or oranges or greens.  James had a great time and the piece is going to look great when it dries.

For the recipe we did the following in each cup:

2 ounces Flood Floetrol
10 mls of alcohol
20 mls of paint

The paints were added to three separate cups and then poured over the canvas.  Very little was done to manipulate the panel.  Below is a list of the ingredients we used:

  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Hansa Yellow – http://amzn.to/2pQZuWd
  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Napthaol Red – http://amzn.to/2pPtaUh
  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Phthalo Blue ( Red Shade) – http://amzn.to/2qlEhr5

Creating Cells and Memories – Acrylic Pouring Using Cookie Cutters

I don't get to spend a lot of time with my oldest but when I do we generally do a lot of laughing.  Whitney is one of my greatest accomplishments and I am always in awe of what she can do.  This kid works hard in school, she raises animals in FFA, sings in the choir at church and tutors 5th graders every Wednesday.  She is also an awesome photographer and cook!  Last night her and I spent a little time together trying out the new technique and we had a lot of fun.

The painting dried beautifully and we are excited about the results.

The Effect of a No Flip – Flip Cup Acrylic Pouring Technique

Lately, I have been working on the way to get a lot of paint on a large panel without actually pouring the paint. Mainly I wanted to do a flip cup in multiple places. Well, I think I have found the solution, and I wanted to share the technique.

In the video, I use biscuit cutters to pool the paint up and create the dirty pour. The difference is that I placed my lightest colors first in the cup so they would have a chance to move around. I think this will work best on a large panel, but we will have to see later. Once the painting has dried, I will post the finished piece here in this blog, so you know what the results. If you want to try this for yourself I have listed all the products used below:

Products Used:

  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Titan Buff  –  http://amzn.to/2qT6l23

Creating Cells with Color Shift Paints in an Acrylic Pour.
  • Posted By : admin/

This weekend Zoe and I have been playing with some new paint.  Last night we made a piece using Color Shift Paints and we rather liked the results.  So today we thought we would share with our YouTube Channel how we did the pour.  The receipe we used was rather simple.

In each cup add the following:

  • 2 Parts Paint
  • 2 Parts GAC 800
  • 1 Part 91% Alcohol.
  • 5 to 10 drops silicone

People have asked why I use alcohol and it is really just preference.  You can use water I just know that the alcohol works for me and I like it.  Additionally the alcohol can help act as a dispersing agent with the silicone. Once these pieces have dried and we have coated them in resin Zoe wants to put them on my Etsy page.  Of course they won’t be $2500 like she asked but they will be for sale.

Below is a list of the products we used with links to where they can be purchased:

  • FolkArt Color Shift Acrylic Pink Flash  http://amzn.to/2pjB6wR
  • FolkArt Color Shift Acrylic Purple Flash – http://amzn.to/2q9wOw9
  • FolkArt Color Shift Acrylic Green Flash – http://amzn.to/2pSzJX3
  • Liquitex Basic Titanium White Acrylic – http://amzn.to/2q9sRr1
  • Golden GAC 800 – http://amzn.to/2qN0NqQ

Discovering acrylic pouring cells by spraying silicone on the surface of a painting

Teaching my 8 year old to paint using acrylic pouring medium and mixing colors is probably one of the most fun things I do each week.  She just loves to make the magic happen and I love to watch her learn new things.

This week we did a little 8 inch canvas using some metallic paints and jewel tones.  We like the results and decided to spray a little silicone on the painting at the end of the pour.  Cells were created instantly!  However, after the painted dried they were not as interesting as the ones that appeared naturally.  For the painting in the video and seen above we made a list of the materials used in case you wanted to try some of this out.

Shopping List:

  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Quinacridone Magenta
  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Cobalt Turquois
  • Golden Fluid Acrylic – Ultramarine Violet
  • Golden High Flow Acrylic – Titanium White
  • Lumiere Halo Blue Green Gold
  • Golden GAC 800
  • Flood Floetrol
  • 91% Alcohol
  • Blaster Silicone Spray

Recipe:

  1. For the Paint colors (NOT WHITE) we used the following ratios – 1 Part Paint: 1 Part GAC 800: 1 Part Alcohol
  2. For the White we used about 60cc of Floetrol and 10 drops of White High Flow Acrylic.
  3. The paints were added to the cups and then poured over the canvas.  Some would call it a “dirty pour”
  4. After the paint had settled we then sprayed a very light mist of silicone over the painting allowing the chemical to settle on top and create the cellular reaction.
